Baby Ruth Candy Bar
The Baby Ruth candy bar was not, as is commonly believed, named after Babe Ruth, the famous baseball player. Originally called Kandy Kate, it was renamed in the 1920’s to honor ex-President Grover Cleveland’s daughter, Ruth, the first child born in the White House. She was fondly known to the American public as “Baby Ruth”.
Interestingly, New York Yankee slugger Babe Ruth did try marketing his own brand of candy, Babe Ruth’s Home Run Candy. The ball player, however, struck out in the candy business.
宝贝鲁斯糖条
人们通常认为，宝贝鲁斯糖条是根据美国棒球明星贝比·鲁斯命名的，但实际并非如此。宝贝鲁斯糖条最早被命名为凯特糖，直至20世纪20年代为纪念美国前总统克利夫兰的女儿鲁斯—她是第一个在白宫出生的孩子，美国公众亲切地称她为“宝贝鲁斯糖条”——才改名为“宝贝鲁斯糖条”。
有趣的是，纽约扬基队的击球手贝比·鲁斯的确曾经尝试以自己的名字为商标，生产一种名为“宝贝鲁斯糖条”的糖果。不过，这位棒球手刚刚开局就被淘汰出糖果生意场了。
