优朗英语成人英语培训的张同学今天学会了一个新句型——unless。unless的意思是“除非...”，含有交换条件的意味，在英语里就是用这个句型来表达，例如：“除非你答应不说出去，我才要告诉你这个秘密。”

 

句型解析：

 

1.表达要避免出现某种结果所需要的条件

unless具有否定含义，常译为“除非...”，“如果不...就不...”。unless在意思上比较接近if ... not , 所以两者常可交替使用，只是unless 的语气比if ... not 重。但也不是左右情况下，unless都可以与if ... not 互换。

 

You will fail the exam unless you study harder . = If you don't study harder ,you will fail the exam.

除非你更加用功，否则你考试将会不及格。

 

2.表示假设一种反面情况

如果unless引导的从句本身是否定形式，unless就不能由if...not 所替代。

 

Don't consult a dictionary unless you really don't understand the word .

除非你确实不懂那个字的意思，不然不要查字典。

 

情景会话:

I'm afraid I will not pass the exam next month .

You will fail the exam unless you study harder .

我恐怕过不了下个月的考试。

除非你更加用功，否则你考试将会不及格。
