MULTI-WORD VERBS: WITH ‘OUT’ out的短语动词
至上个单元里我们学习了动词+in的比喻和惯用的意思。本单元里我们接着学习动词+out的比喻的惯用的意思。
动词+out词组里，动词一般保持原来的意思不普通，所以很容易理解：
I cut out pictures of pop stars from magazines.我把受欢迎的明星从杂志上剪了下来。
John will help out if you need him.如果你需要，约翰会帮助你。
A day at the seaside should tire them out. 在海边玩一天会让他们很累。
He bought out his partner.他买下了合伙人的全部股份。
在back out 和pick out里，动词back和pick的意思稍微有所引申：
Originally 30 were going, but all except two have backed out.最初有30人去，但后来除了两个人之外全部退出了。

些词组是惯用表达，这时，动词和out 的意思和原意是不同的：
*knock out击败；打昏
Ali knocked out Frazier in the fifth round. 阿里在第五回合击败了弗雷泽。
*pass out 昏过去；失去知觉
When she saw so much blood, she passed out.她看见这么多的血就昏了过去。
*sort out分类
Can you sort these out into large and small ones？你能把这些按大小分开吗？
*count someone out不把某人包括在内
If it costs that much, you can count me out.如果花费那么高，你可以把我除外。
stand out引入注目；突出
With his red hair, he always stands out in a corwd.他长着一头红发，站在人群里很突出。
*fall out (with) 争吵
Has he fallen out with her?Why did they fall out?他和她吵了架吗？他们为什么吵架？
*break out爆发；发生
A cholera epidemic has broken out in the refugee camp. 一场霍乱在难民营爆发。
*make out完成；写出
It says “This belong…’, but I can’t make out the rest. 可以说“这个属于……”， 但是我写不出剩下的部分。
*bear out证明；支持
Can anyone bear out your story?
有人能证明你讲的事情吗？
*cut out停止
The machine cuts out when it gets too hot.
机器过热就会停止运转。
*turn out 生产；赶出；原来是
The factory turns out five thousand cars a week. 这个工厂一周生产5000辆汽车。
Her father was so angry that he turned her out.她爸爸非常生气，把她赶了出去。
He turned out to be adopted. 原来他是被领养的。
