Conversation 1 (会话一)
Kevin: Hello, I’d like to see Mr. Baker for some business.
你好，我有事要见贝克先生。
Joan: What time would you like to see him?
你想什么时候见贝克先生？
Kevin: Would nine o’clock tomorrow morning be alright.
明天上午9点行吗？
Joan: Just a moment, please, I’ll cheek for you.

alright=all right 是非正式用法，意思是：好，是，对，一切正常。用来表示满意或赞同。如：
Do youfeel alright?你感觉还好吗？

Just a moment 是口语表达法。意思是：稍候片刻。同just a second.

Victoria: Could you arrange for me to see Doctor Zhang tomorrow morning?

Nurse: I’m afraid not. He won’t be free until 11:30.

arrange for 是习惯用语，意思是：安排，准备。
I’m afraid not 较为客气的口语表达法。用来委婉地否定，纠正和驳斥对方。如：
Can you finish the work tomorrow?你能完成这项工作吗？
I’m afraid not。（我想）恐怕不能。
not…until… 是连用结构。意思是‘直到……时，才……’。

A: Hi, Tom. Want to go and play bowling tonight?

B: Sounds good. When and where shall we meet?
好注意。我们什么时候，在那儿碰头？
A： Let me see… How about 6:30 at the gate of the club?
