在美国，约会是件有意思的事。约会主要重视三个方面：准时、穿着和地点的选择。与美国人约会最好不要迟到。他们普遍认为一个爱迟到的人是不靠谱的不值得信任的。如果你因交通或者其他什么原因不能准时到达，需要提前给对方打个电话告知一声，别让对方一直等。约会时的穿着主要看场合，非正式party 穿着可以稍微随便一点，但在正式的场合穿着一定要比较讲究，若是正式的宴会或者高档餐厅，穿着就更要正式，最好别忘了打领带或者戴领结。关于约会的地点，一般取决于约会的性质，如果与异性约会，第一次正式约会要避免去女方家里或偏僻的地方，不然对方没有安全感，很可能拒绝你；如果是与同性朋友约会，就更不能随便往家里带了，即使关系再好，两人太亲密总是腻味在一起，会很容易让人怀疑是不是两个人性取向有问题。这一点，与国内情况可能很不一样。
