请求许可最直接的表达是Can I …?

Can I borrow your pen, please?请把你的笔借我好吗？

Is it all right it…?也很直接：

Is it all right if I sit here?我坐这儿可以吗？

使用May I…?或could I…?时，礼貌程度会比较高：

May I come in?我可以进来吗？

Could I speak to your mother please? 我能和你母亲说话吗？

 

GRANTING & REFUSSING PERMISSION  同意或不同意

表示同意时，常用的有礼貌的表达方式如下所示：

Yes, of course.

Of course you can.

Go ahead.

Please do.

Be my guest.

表示不允许、不同意时，可用下面这些有礼貌　表达方式：

No, I’m sorry,

I’m afraid you can’t.

看看下面的对话：

Woman   Can I read this newspaper?

Man     Of course you can.

Woman   Could I take this chair?

Man     Please do.

Man     Is it all right I sit in this seat?

Woman  No, I’m sorry.

Man    Can I take this home?

DO YOU MIND IF…?  你介意……？

当你想做某事，　却觉得这事可能会给对方带来麻烦时，可以用Do you mind if…?这种请求许可的表达：

Do you mind if I open the window?你介意我打开窗户吗？

在条件时态里，Would you mind if…?会显得更有礼貌：

Would you mind if I smoked?你介意我抽烟吗？Do you mind …?和Would you mind…?这两个表示许可的句子直接翻译的话，是“你介意……吗？”也就是问“你讨厌吗？”因此，如果你想回答“不介意”、“不讨厌”，　即给予对方许可时.必须说No。反过来，表示“讨厌”、“介意”时，就必须用Yes.

表示“讨厌”时最有礼貌的说法就是：

I’d rather you didn’t.

要表示非常“介意”时，可以说：

Yes, I do mind.

Yes, I would mind.
