AA制是指结账时各人均或各自付账的做法。AA为拉丁文缩写，含义是“各”，“各个”的意思。关于AA有很多种说法：
“AA”是“Algebraic Average”的缩写，意思是“代数平均”。意思可以从字面看出，就是按人头平均分担账单的意思。这个意思首先来自英国人对荷兰人的偏见，因为古荷兰人就是平分账单的，英国人认为荷兰人没有绅士风度。
还有个说法，“AA”是英文“ Acting Appointment”的缩写。16~17世纪时的荷兰和威尼斯，是海上商品贸易和早期资本主义的发迹之地。因为商人的流动性很强，一个人请别人的客，被请的人说不定这辈子再也碰不到了，为了大家不吃亏，彼此分摊便是最好的选择了。而荷兰人因其精明、凡事都要分清楚，逐渐形成了let’s go Dutch （让我们做荷兰人）的俗语。而幽默的美国人将这句话引申成为“AA制”。
还有香港人把AA作为All Apart 的缩写，意为“全部分开”，很形象！
