在美国的留学生获得美国学位后一般会有一定期限的OPT临时工作许可。文科硕士一般是一年，STEM专业的学生OPT可以延长达29个月之久。一般情况下，在毕业后便可以申请OPT，被公司录用后，就可以在美国合法工作了，在这期间，如果美国公司重视你，他们可能会为你申请HIB签证，有了HIB签证之后，便可以申请绿卡。但拿到HIB是很难的，拿到绿卡就更难了。不过，毕业后能留在美国工作1-2年也是很好的，不但可以挣会学费，还可以获得宝贵的工作经验。
